Attendance and absence
If your child is ill and cannot attend school, please call the office before 9am on the first day of absence.
Illness
If your child is too ill to be in school, please phone school first thing in the morning to let us know. We will discuss the situation with you and offer help / support if needed. If your child is a little unwell but perhaps needs medication to address an illness, school would recommend your child comes to school (unless their illness is contagious) and that medicine is sent to help with their condition. Please read our 'Administration of Medication' policy carefully. You will be asked to complete an 'Administration of Medication' form for each medicine your child requires. The form is available to download from this page or from the main school office.
The importance of good attendance
Every minute of every day counts. Eastwood is passionate about our pupils having good attendance and timekeeping. Good attendance and timekeeping are vital life skills; starting off when young creates good habits for later life.
Missing even short periods of time in school causes difficulties for children - not just academically but also socially. The following poster shows the significant impact of even short periods of absence on your child's learning.
Eastwood Community School works in close partnership with other local primaries through the Keighley Schools Together initiative. As part of this, all schools in the locality operate the same attendance policy. We have common goals and a shared passion for safeguarding our children; working for the good of the community and delivering excellent teaching and learning. Membership is extended to all Keighley schools and, working with other stakeholders, we will make our town a better place to bring up children.
Please contact the school office as soon as possible to discuss any leave of absence request
Please try to avoid booking medical appointments during the school day. GPs, Dentists and other health services are often happy and able to arrange for appointment times for school age children out of school hours. This avoids disrupting learning time for your child(ren). Please contact school to inform us of any appointment times so we can let your child's teacher know.
